Unertls in good condition are demanding, and getting, upwards of $1000 dollars. (Stevens 44 1/2 with Unertl 1oX external mount scope) Both showed cosmetic wear.If you are a fan of the Unertl type external adjustable scopes for your vintage single shot rifle, you are well aware that a Unertl, Lyman or Fecker scope, in just about any condition, is an expensive proposition. I found one on GB for $2250 and one on eB for $1750. None of this should interfere with shooting, but would benefit from a refurb. At the 6 and 7 o'clock position of the outside circle of the scope field of view is also some flaking. The optics are clear however at the 6 o'clock position of the cross hair there is some flaking. An inspection of the mounts and the scope finds no wear whatsoever. I bought it several years ago and have never mounted this on a rifle. Lastly: A vintage 25 power Lyman Super Target Spot Scope with Lyman 3-point mounts and original wooden box. Next Up: A vintage 16 power Unertl scope with mounts. The metal on the gun is not perfect.but is in good shape for its age. The stock does have a chip on the pistol grip & a couple dings in it.but I steamed most of them out when I bought this. I bought this from the CMP due to the matching bolt (many were not), stripped off the awful lacquer finish, cleaned the gun up, and raw linseed-oiled the stock. Up first: This Remington 40XB Heavy Barrel has a matching bolt (serial number electro-penciled on the bolt handle), a hard to find correct handstop, and a gorgeous walnut stock-typical of the 40XBs.
